New Teacher Tech Sites!

Today I was extremely excited to learn about all the new websites available for formative assessment use! I have used Kahoot a lot in my room, but I think it would be pretty exciting for my students if I used a variety of different options!
Options that were new to me included Plickers, Formative, Socrative, and GoSoapBox. I really like the idea of GoSoapBox because it is similar to Kahoot, but students can get 100% feedback and use it to study. To my knowledge, Kahoot doesn't offer that option, or at least not without doing some work first! I also thought Plickers was cool. The students would probably be really into holding up the sign. I can see its advantage over Kahoot because when students are using devices to click answers in, their screens come up green or red depending on whether or not they got the answer correct. This makes it easy for other students to see who got the answers wrong, which can lead to other issues. Plickers makes it a lot harder for "snooping." The other two sites are great as well, just as a way to mix things up and keep the students on their toes! Who knew there was so much available....and all for free!? :)

  1. I completely agree! I think it would be great to incorporate these different assessments into our classrooms. I think that it adds some excitement (to the teachers and students) to use these engaging type of assessments rather than tests and quizzes that students dread taking and teachers do not enjoy grading!

  2. I also agree! We aren't typically encouraged to use much of that in our classrooms, but it is much easier to get it "approved" by our administration if it is free. That helps a ton and I also love the immediate feedback that is available to the students. I think one of the bigger draws I had to that particular evaluation tool is that it is low tech. Since we aren't 1 to 1 and our students cannot use their own devices, it helps that the students do not have to have a device to use that tool. At EP we have to ask for wifi on any teacher device and explain how we are going to use it in the classroom and how it will enhance student learning... I think that any teacher wanting to use this tool would get it approved.

  3. These tools were great to learn about today! A little harder to use these so commonly in Physical Education but it can be implemented from time to time around test days. I like the idea of Plickers because I can scan quickly and then get students into activity, but I completely agree that students will look around and see if they can see each others. I also wonder with that if everyone would have their own shape so "snooping" would be a lot harder. I also feel like this is the best option for my classroom because we do not have the technology yet so students do not have access to a computer to take the online tests unless we pull them out of the weight room for a day but you never want to do that because some kids dread not being in the weight room!!

  4. I use 5 or 6 different tools like these in my classroom but I have to wonder at what point is it enough. I continue to find ones that are good and as time passes I have not used some of them for awhile. I cant wait until the time that one of these sites can import the grades right into our grade books.
